Tortoises weight more than 500 pounds live over 200 years

Researchers from the Congo to the Galapagos Islands are dedicated to protecting animals if there are in danger. Stephen says, giant species is in general bad for Galapagos ecosystems. There are bits to that story, there are nuggets in that stories making more complicated. That complication comes to for giant tortoises. For them nonnative grass and fruit species appear to be putting on spring in their steps. Researchers observed tortoises weight more than 500 pounds travel out of their way to have some lunch. Apart from watching the massive animals eat researcher need to quantify how much and which invasive species eat. Giant Tortoise are characteristic reptiles that are found on two groups of tropical islands: the Aldabra Atoll in Seychelles and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. These tortoises can weigh as much as 300 kg (660 lb) and can grow to be 1.3 m (4 ft 3 in) long. Giant tortoises originally made their way to islands from the mainland; for example, Aldabra Atoll and Mascarenes giant tortoises are related to Madagascar tortoises while Galapagos giant tortoises are related to Ecuador mainland tortoises. Large tortoises are among the longest-lived animals on the planet. Some individual Aldabra giant tortoises are thought to be over 200 years of age, but this is difficult to verify because they tend to outlive their human observers.
